How do you define a good manager from a bad manager?

Good manager is a manager that trains, motivates and coordinate the members of the team. He gets the job done by his team members.

A good manager is:-

1)  Someone who can engage his team in a positive manner and get the job done within the time limits set by the Management. 

2)  He is able to recognise the talent and potential of his team and delegate work accordingly.

3)  He sets an example of leadership, co-operation, cleanliness, punctuality, politeness, respect for each member in the team, resourcefulness and increases the team spirit among his subordinates. In other words, he also knows how to manage himself before managing others.

4)  He is clear about the agenda of his department and is able to communicate it clearly.  Therefore, no chaotic situation will arise in his department.

5)  He is responsible and reliable when leading his team and does not blame his subordinates for his mistakes.

6)  He acknowledges the efforts of his team in front of his superiors and is able to convince the management at the time of appraisals.

7)  He is a mentor to his subordinates and trains them according to the requirement.

8)  He is also a good motivator and does not allow negative matters to cloud his judgement.  In other words, he thinks clearly in detail, before acting.

A bad manager is just the opposite of all the above mentioned points.

You can easily recognise a good manager from a bad one, depending on the support and enthusiasm displayed by his subordinates, while working with him.

There are a lot of factors differentiate between a good and a bad managers. If I need to answer this question, my answer will be look like a book size. In general, there is one major difference between them which is related to the using of "Reward the team" for good managers and "punish the team" for bad managers when there is any kind of conflict.

A good manager is the manager who gets the job done through his staff and agree with them on a set of performance indicators which he/she monitors and take appropriate actions based on them

A good manager always motivates his team by accepting the innovative ideas of others which is in line with the company vision and also helps his team members to dig out their potentials . A good manager also works equally with other team members. A good manager always gives the right guidance to his employees.

A bad manager always underestimates the work done by his emplyees and do not take any efforts to improve the work.
