What kind of ip address is suitable to a WAN topology ?

It depends on the WAN technology.

You can have private IP address in MPLS typical /30 network.

You can have public IP address in Direct internet. You can buy /29 public IP address for your network

There are two types of IP addresses IPv4 and IPv6. It depends on you what will use (It all depends on your knowledge).

Noramlly people preffer IPv4.

If you are asking what subnet mask is suitable for a WAN topology using IPv4, then it depends on the design of your WAN.

It's not about IP class, Any class is fine but I prefer class A or C. For subnet mask, a /24 is preferred. Lastly, private IP could be best and NAT for internet access.
