As a leader, would it be challenging if you're younger than the team you are leading? Would you prefer to be older or does age not matter?

Age was never an obstacle when it comes to leadership, as long you have the right leadership skills when you prove yourself to your team, they will trust you and will follow you disregarding your age or gender .

Age does not a mater. When we lead a team, we can find different kinds of people When we give respect them, they will give back. As a part of respect, we have to conduct the meeting regularly and take the decision. When we conduct the meeting, first we have to give the preference to the team members to provide their suggestion and the leader has to take the decision in the final stage after analyzing the details of the discussion,

Leadership qulaity lies in the skill not in the age. In my opinion age is not at all a big thing in leading a team. What we need is the driving power to lead my own team members to achieve our task.

It would be quite challenging for me personally to lead any team regardless of their age.

Age is just a life timer, Mentality is what counts as hundreds of years ago people at the age of 16 and 17 used to lead wars and etc..

I would choose to be more experienced than the rest of the team instead of being their elder.

The right leader skills will be shown throughout the stages of building the team

I.e (Tuckman 1965)

1) Forming

2) Storming

3) Norming

4) Performing

After that phase the team will be well connected to each other and collaboration must be at its top, so unless the leader does not pass this challenge then he/she is not considered a skilled leader

Thank you for the invitation @Dina Al Khatib

Older doesn’t always mean wiser, but what it does usually mean is more experienced. A great manager knows how to leverage his or her team’s strengths, and that’s why it’s critical that you take the time to get to know your staff as individuals. Identify their unique talents and strengths, and look for ways to incorporate their opinions and honor their gifts. You will shine brighter as a leader when each individual member of your team is given the encouragement and tools to shine themselves. If you don’t want to disclose your age but also don’t want to be unpleasant about it, just smile and playfully say something like “old enough to do the job.”

Be Prepared to Answer the Age Question

If you don’t want to disclose your age but also don’t want to be unpleasant about it, just smile and playfully say something like “old enough to do the job.”

If you are chaotic and unsure of yourself, your staff will pick up on it. If you can be a source of stillness, calm, and reason for your team, your age won’t matter.

Machiavelli said he would rather be feared than loved. While I believe there was some wisdom in The Prince, I don’t advocate instilling fear in your employees. However, I believe there is a significant difference between respect and love, and when it comes to employees’ treatment of the boss, a healthy amount of the former is always best.

Getting that respect from them depends on you. Leave your social self—the one who seeks approval and needs to be liked—at home. The office is not the time or place for you to find your new best friend or workout partner.

Finally, remember that you may be young, but if you are in a leadership position, it is likely because you have devoted your life thus far to refining your special gift. There is an anecdote about a lady who saw Picasso briefly doodling on a napkin in a restaurant: She asked to buy it from him, and he said, “sure, that will be $100,000.” She was aghast at the price tag, and commented that it had only taken him five minutes to create the drawing. Picasso responded, “No, it took me my whole life.”

Never allow others’ perceptions of age dilute the value of the life-long hours you have devoted to your gift, your skill, and your leadership.

Age does not matter, what matter's is the experience and leadership qualities. One simply can not lead a team without team work and experience in that field.

Age does not matter as long as you have the leadership traits and maturity. However, I do agree it is challenging for a younger leader depending on factors like organization culture and social values in your local country.
