Jacob P
by Jacob P , IT Project Management Consultant , Eickhoff Wind Asia Pvt Ltd

Since i am having experiences in IT and Non-IT, i used to change my management style according to the domain .  When i work in IT its so easy to handle the IT peopels to insist them to follow the standard frame work methodologies. I motivate the team with full positive energy with minimum level of KT and give them freehand to completed any kind of implementation. Anything goes wrong as a team they will revert back it as possible. This approach allow them should learn more which will not occur in the future.  Its a kind of professional way of management.

The same i can't apply to non IT sector. I am sure it causes more failure.  Once got clear idea about the situation, i insist them to follow me with some new rules and regulation which similar way of working style which they following as earlier. In my direct supervision i motivate them to complete their individual tasks to acheive their project goal as possible. End of the day, i call the team for the review meeting and will ask them to prepare a document to find the difference or comparison between the earlier and current working style. The result i share them the methodology name which we called as a frame work in IT. Here i am creating a professional management along with a team. Too more challenge to succeed. I managed both environment in a successful way with live example of my projects.

Jacob.

Style...I do not have any particular style.

I share my knowledge with my team, I conduct them, I do before ask them to do, I make them participative and proactive in finding solutions, resolve problems, make them responsible developing projects from A-Z without my interference, and, finally, I/we create a good and positive environment, where the humour is present.

If this is a style, please someone categorize it.

I provide the directions and borders for the team to move within and a chance to excel out of the box. Information flow is critical to teamwork so I invested a lot of time with my team and other Business units in the organization to be all on the same page when it comes to information.

I work to inspire and motivate teamwork for achieving goals and influence valuable changes. I am always open to new ideas coming from team members. I consult with them frequently and encourage and support independent thinking. I believe in establishing an open discussion for decision-making. I recognize the skills of key team members and utilize their strengths to the benefit of the team.”

The findings of extensive research on what makes a team effective, show that teams that have the talents and skills to manage themselves, do better. This means that having a domineering manager doesn’t necessarily lead to consistent and better performance; it’s the organizational support that makes a difference. Therefore, a good manager should support or balance the talents of the individuals to work together in harmony so that the team ends up managing itself.

Keith Gregory Wright
by Keith Gregory Wright , Program Director , DynCorp International

My management style is collaborative. I want my team to be empowered to make decisions and addressing and solving problems at the lowest level. I want issues resolved by the people who know most about the problem before they become a dispute, without third party involvement. People are to take ownership of the process.
