“The Love of one's Country is a splendid thing. But Why should Love stop at the Border? Let's embrace Diversity and fall in Love with all Cultures, at Work and in Life!" - Pablo Casals

There is a famous say: “We die and still learning”. In my opinion & based from my personal experience, we can learn too much from people coming from different places. I have worked numerous times in a multi-cultural environment and different counties across Europe, middle East & Africa. It is a great opportunity for everyone to share & learn from one another. Also it is a great chance to enhance your challenging skills and finding new methods to communicate with your coworkers & higher management.

As today's world becomes increasingly global in its outlook and as the marketplace becomes increasingly global in nature, multiculturalism in the workplace most likely will grow. Although the transition to a multicultural workplace could result in issues related acclimation for workers and their employers, multiculturalism at work provides many advantages that can help a company prosper.

hello,

below are some paragraphs that I read at one of the journals and contain some useful information on this subject:

Many businesses are made up of different ethnicities, beliefs, religions and culture which can create a sense of cultural awareness among workers. There are some great benefits that can be learned from work colleagues that experience ideas and viewpoints of others that help to look at things from a different perspective when confronted with a problem to overcome. Unfortunately, there are many that don’t see things in this light, some are narrow-minded in their view of the world and this may limit a person's ability to think and solve problems in a rich way. Leading experts in global work practices have sighted that a multicultural workforce offers a greater depth of problem solving, which is based on their own cultural identities, experience and qualifications they have gained. For companies there can be huge advantages in embracing the viewpoints of their multicultural mix, as it allows them to tap into larger social networks than just one ethnic group - this is good news interns of sales as it provides a greater market scope and depth of understanding which allows companies to connect more with their market in both language and cultural identity. This means there is an opportunity to tap into new sources of revenue opportunity that may have been overlooked, or packaged in a market offering as a “one-size-fits-all” approach. The benefits may also be more than just dollars and cents for a company and improving the bottom line - Employees in a multicultural workplace that are exposed are more likely to develop great levels of tolerance and understanding. This can result in greater cooperation with one another and reaching compromises if differences of opinion. This can only enhance a work environment where employees can thrive and enjoy their job, creating greater levels of staff retention and fulfillment - This could also impact on the bottom line with less recruitment costs and downtime as staff come and go and new ones are trained in their roles. Perhaps one of the side benefits or working in a multicultural workplace is the understanding and a curiosity to learn more. The world has changed to what it was 20-years ago, there are greater opportunities to work in foreign countries and the chances of working in project teams of different ethnicities is almost a certain occurrence now. So, there are certainly some great benefits to embracing other people's culture with a sense of curiosity and understanding. Who knows, one day you may be working in a foreign country and the skills you learn today will hold you in good stead for off-shore assignments.

Best Regards

Yes, I love working in a multi-cultural environment.  I enjoy working along with other people from a different country because every person brings something important to share and there is the factor of diversity.  Diversity brings out the positive attitude among poeple and this generates a new social hierachy.  It creates different images in people mapping and developing their mind to a different thought.  It is thought and effect of that thinking bringing about change.  Sometimes we all feel that another person is taking over the universe but it isn't, it is another action involved.

I have worked with other groups in society and it is sometimes compelling for each of us to open our minds and work with harmony.  In bringing harmony together within a working structure or group it creates a diverse way of tackling different issues in a workplace and dynamic solutions to every problem.  I will add here, there is change and change brings problems but it is not hard and brings good with bad effects on every one in society.  Some people succeed with working in a diverse group be it a teenager or an elderly group.  Respecting different views is important and working alongside those views with a strategy that beings positive behaviour in every individual is to be maintained, so that no conlicts arise.

Be aware of your potential as an individual and add to the diverse ways in a multi-cultural environment.  Study each other well and give respect to earn respect.  This is not easy because each wants to rule over the other or feel demoralised because someone has caused hurt.  Do not take hurt personally ask the person diverting the hurt "Why is it that the pattern of behaviour and thought was diverted to a certain person and get an answer, do not give up".  When you have received an answer say "thank you" to the person and carry on with your life.  You have shown respect and appreciation to the person that pays for the feelings that is sorted out amicably.
