Height and spread:

This is perhaps the most important factor. Although it depends on the choice of a grower that of which size and height plant the one is interested in. However, too big or too small mature size can be an issue. Keep in mind the ultimate height and spread of your desired plant with respect to the  available space and area. Big trees planted close to walls/buildings can lead to problem.

Growth rate:

Growth rate is also very important. It should reasonably be medium to fast.

Good shade:

While selecting a tree for the the plantation, one should keep in mind about its shade. A selected plant should keep a good shade as well.

Beautiful canopy:

This is one of the most important feature of ornamental trees. Trees/Bushes/Shrubs which form round symmetrical canopies are always good looking and better for the plantation.
