If a consumer does not drink water when it is hot outside they will certainly get ill, so water is a need .
Now the consumer that has quenched his thirst may now want a can of coke but it is not a need .
The consumer buys daily his bottel of water and demands for it, that means he aur she is willing to pay for it
I think it's relativistic matter ! despite of the instinctual needs of a human being , the rest defers from a person to another one , so in business we have to find a way to leverage the need for a product to convince consumers of a certain segment to buy it !
i needs to buy bread every day (necessary or important, that cannot wait)
i want a new mobile (not important that can wait)
the demand joins between needs and wants
If consumer doesn't drink water when it is hot outside they will certainly get ill, so water is a need in the same way that without a car (unless work is a walking distance from home) a person won't be able to work so a car is a need to somehow make a living.
Now the customer that has quenched his thirst may now want a can of Coke: it is no longer a need because we can live (and should...) live without drinking carbonated sodas. In the same manner I need a car to go to work, and any car would do, but I want a BMW because I like speed and cool cars.
The customer buys daily his bottle of water and demands for it, that means he or she is willing to pay a price for it. There is a large demand for water because people need it and want to pay for it!
The demand for a basic Toyota may be greater in some countries than the demand for BMW because people are not willing to pay a high price for a car.
