What is the difference between focal points and turning points in negotiation?

A focal point refers to a single salient coordinating concept shared by the parties. A turning point is a departure that takes place during the course of a negotiation, when the course seems to change. Precipitants precede turning points and consequences follow them.

The difference between focal point and turning point. Focal point is a center of Interest or Activity while the turning point a time at which a decisive change in a situation occurs, especially one with beneficial result-------- It's like a moment of truth.

A focal point is a silent negotiation parameter generally understood mutually by the parties to reach on single point conclusion. However, turning point is spontaneous generation of a new parameters during the course of negotiation other than pre-determined or silent/mutal understanding by the parties.

focal point is the main point or the main concept of a subject , and its the reason of a meeting

turning point is the moment of a significant change in opinion, direction, motion.

Focal point means when different people have a converging views on an issue, although the background and mentality level of the person varies.

Turning point means that when there is difference of opinions about an issue or problem and how to resolve, although every person view is respected.

The main difference between focal and turning point of negotiation is

1. A concept mutually agreed by both parties before negotiation starts - ( Basic Fundamental points) are generally known as focal points 

2. After negotiation or during negotiation both parties agreed to accept a concept - Turning point
