How do teachers stop their students from using mobile phones in the classroom?

Set rules  about using of mobile phones before the formal classess start. Discuss to them the pros and cons of using mobile phone in the classroom. Explain to them the importance of following the set rules.

While what I practice might sound unorthodox, I do integrate my students' smart phones in the learning process to help my TOEIC units. from the beginning of the semester/year, I ask them to download and install English language grammar and dictionary applications and use them in checking new vocabulary items, new tenses that we might cover in a unit. I also resort to mobile phones as tools for individual listening tasks by providing the corresponding unit audio clips and let the students rehearse listening (even when taking transportation to and from the School). Besides, as a way to improve my students' pronunciation skills and fluency, I ask them to write speeches and then turn them into audio files (easily done online) with different accents (US, British, Australian) and then urge them to record their own voices and listen and compare the two files they have. This has helped them a lot to pick up the accent they feel most comfortable with, improve their pronunciation and enhance their listening skills.

Students using cell phones in your class is a clear sign of disinteresrt of students in that particular subject and as a teacher you are unable to seek there attention in class room due to which they latch on other activities during class to pass time such as using cell-phones. The only effective way to prevent this by making your teaching style so attention seeking towards students that they feel listening to you is far better than using a cell phone

Be a role model, first you should not use mobile phone. call him and motivate him the important of life and living

What I do and I believe that every teacher should do in this respect is as follows:

1- Ask the students not to use it in class rooms.

2)- If they are addict of it, counsel them.

3)- Warn them. Sieze the cell phone and submit it to the Principal / in the office.

4)- Make arrangement for some space where cell phones should be kept during school hours, in safe custody.

5)- If still students do so, punish them. Like, stand at the back, move out of the class, make a complaint to his / her parents aginst his / her conduct.

6)- Finally, at last request the authorities to take initiative to set an example for wrong doers.

Most teachers believe that there are ways and means to stop learners and other students from being distracted by their mobile phones:

1- penalize students who are caught using their mobile devices in class. The teacher can let the class decide what the most appropriate penalty is for the guilty party. One teacher told his class that the one being caught using his cellphone would have to buy snacks for all students on his row.

2- by giving points to the users every time that they are caught in the act of using their gadgets. The points they made will be deducted from their scores every day. The teacher can assign a student or two to police their classmates in their table or in their row. The teacher must show that he is serious by gathering the list every day and recording it. In most instances, students avoid texting or net surfing for fear of losing points in class.

3- In some schools, students are requested to leave their cellphones in one designated place in the classroom and they are only allowed to retrieve them at the end of the class. Those students who protest such measure argue that they might have an emergency call in the middle of the class. This sounds reasonable but what could be the direst emergency that young students can expect? When a teacher insists on this ruling, most students would waver and just give up their phones before classes start.

4- Consulting with parents with regards to classroom policies on mobile phone usage will make students realize that they cannot just disregard the policy of the school. In addition, during enrollment time, the child with his parents should sign an agreement that states clearly the school rules and regulations against using of mobile phones in the classroom. Most parents would agree to the idea and would support the school’s efforts to ensure that their children get what they paid for, which is quality education.
