In OHS, all accidents are referred to as incidents, however, not all incidents are accidents because an accident is an occurrence that leads to damage to property, injury to humans or loss of lives. A near miss which is not an accident (there is no damage to property, loss of lives or injury to humans based on the prevailing circumstances) is also referred to as an incident.

The word incident is just an encompassing word used to refer to such occurrences.
