Open your virtual machine and connect your external hard drive with usb. Or copy your files from external har desk and paste it into your virtual machine.

Please share which hypervisor you are using.

If using Oracle VM, you can connect the external/USB stick to the host and get the folder as shared drive or a drive and access the file. You don't need to use network in this case.
