  HR professionals believe that the traditional resume is still the most effective recruitment tool, despite the growing popularity of social media to verify candidates’ information, according to new research released today by specialist recruitment firm  Robert Half.
  Whilst a third (34%) of the200 HR professionals surveyed admit to using social media profiles to determine the suitability of job candidates, the majority do not view social media as a permanent replacement for resumes/CVs.38% of respondents believe it is not likely that profiles on social media channels such as Facebook or LinkedIn will replace the resume anytime soon, with a further23% surveyed ruling out this notion completely.
  Robert Half Director, Andrew Brushfield, explains that although employers are checking social media, it is the strength of a person’s CV that will often dictate whether or not they will progress to the interview stage.
  “Despite popular belief that a social media profile is the new CV, we’re finding that traditional CVs continue to be an important and valuable part of the application process,” Brushfield said.
  “That said, candidates need to be aware of the new hiring landscape in Australia.
The growth of social media has increased the number of channels at an employer’s disposal, and therefore jobseekers need to make sure that they are presenting a professional profile across the board – both online and offline,” he added.
  Although social media is not replacing the CV in the candidate evaluation process, more employers are using social media channels as a part of their broader recruitment approach.
According to the survey, nearly a third (30%) are using social media to find talent, a fifth (20%) are using social channels to communicate with candidates, and another19% say that they use social media channels to source references for potential job hires.
  “You never know who is looking you up online, which makes it extremely important for jobseekers, as well as those currently employed, to pay attention to their online footprint,” said Brushfield.
  “From ‘liking’ a certain brand on Facebook or complaining about an organisation that has provided bad customer service; to offering an interesting point of view to industry discussions occurring online; candidates need to consider how their behaviours online may positively or negatively impact a potential employers impression of them,” he added.

On average, a recruiter will spend 10 seconds reviewing every CV .
So as a recruiter the first thing that attracts me to a CV is a professional layout that includes only relevant information.
For me, whether the CV is conventional or something really creative, it should be easy to understand and should not be confusing.

Traditional CV's will always be requested by companies up until some sort of convention in put in place by major organisations for some sort of conformity. However I think most cv's always have room for improvement. I do however believe that cv's on their own are never enough. With so much competition now to get into any job you really need to start thinking outside of the box and thinking about things like:

1. Do I have a linked in account and is it up to date

2. can i get recommendations and endorsements from my former colleagues

3. maybe create and start blogging about your industry to show your potential empoyers how well you know your industry.

4. Creating youtube vidoes to tell more about yourself. 

 

This is what I mean by thinking outside of the box. Think about things that will allow you to stand out from the crowd.
