Formerly called Hotmail (Windows Live Hotmail) is one of the most popular free online email services, provided by Microsoft. Hotmail is a Webmail service and users can access it from a Web browser anywhere in the world.
I am assuming that you are referring to HoTMail founded by Jack Smith and Sabeer Bhatia in 1996 and acquired by Microsoft in 1997. This is the first email service I used since 1997 until I shifted to Yahoo! and eventually to Gmail. Hotmail was eventually replaced by Outlook.com in 2013.
Hotmail was my first choice and since the day started from the year 2000 onward I am using it now with the title of outlook. Even I have yahoo and gmail box too, but still first choice is "Outlook".

One of the world's first webmail services, it was founded in 1996 as Hotmail by Sabeer Bhatia., and Microsoft acquired Hotmail in 1997 for an estimated $400 million and launched it as MSN Hotmail, later rebranded to Windows Live Hotmail.
