Mr. Bliss by J.R.R. Tolkien, because it's a story in a beautifully bound book, that begs to be read out loud and shared with others of almost all ages

Tolkien employs simple vocabulary in this story, but never boringly so and even throws the door open to a great neologism every now and then. A 'girabbit' , fancy that!

The illustrations are divine and the gorgeously funny plot moves from the ridiculoous to the sublime.

If the person was a child then I would buy them the Dangerous Book for Boys or the Dangerous Book for Girls because these books are very interesting and have a lot of really fun activities and information.

If the person was an adult then I would look to their hobbies, how they live thier life and what topics they have wanted to talk to me about in the past year.  One year I sent my family a huge box of books, one book per person.  One person got a photography book about outhouses in America because he hated to read but loved American history and worked as a person who cleaned outhouses for a living!  Another person was obsessed with UFO stories and conspiracy theories and he got a book about precisely that.  Another person who loved to cook got a cookbook about food they loved but didn't know yet how to prepare.  Another person got a book on the history of Freemasonry in America because he was a huge reader and loved to know mmore abou secret societies and the occult.

There is no single book that is precisely perfect as a gift for everyone but if someone was spiritually minded and newly searching I might buy them Autobiogroaphy of a Yogi, The Celestine Prophecy or Conversations with God, depending on their level of understanding and where their spiritual focus lies.  All of those books are excellent for getting into the basics of the New Age movement and undestanding our Universe, God and how life and reality is not what we seem to think it is.  But for the serious spiritual learner, I would have to say A Course in Miracles is a wonderful gift as it will change anyone's world for the better.

Personally, I'll buy that person a short story and which story-line points a finger in his life challenges precisely romance. Because everybody excuses himself every once in a while to be distracted in some sensual way by the affection of others as eye-contact, kiss, touch and whatever.

I will buy cartoon book that contain short stories and pictures.

I will buy a picture book that contains a lot of interesting pictures because everyone like to explore the world through eyes rather than through mind

If I'm going to give someone a book that would be something that relates his/her interest and passion. Something will give him/her an idea that books not only contain words and letters but something feeds life and provide colors on it. For example travels, nature, food and adventure.

We all like to present a gift which is appreciated by the receiver.

Keeping in mind this trend I would like to buy a book that is in conformity with the interests of that person. It's most likely that this person will appreciate it, read it and will try to enhance his already existed interests.

Sports, health & fitness, diet, fiction and religion are a few examples to understand.
