Formal education gives an edge to the trainer, although his or her experience as the subject matter expert is the most important tool to coach others. Book theory is not enough for the trainer to qualify as a knowledge custodian. They must have gone through the journey of using that knowledge, learnt from mistakes made and adapted that knowledge to the industry. I have attended workshops facilitated by "trainers"  who only read out from notes or powerpoints presentations but have zero application value. Such a waste of company resources and lost man-hours attending such sessions.

If the "training" is the main job of the personnel, like "Training Manager", "Training Specialist"... It will require proper education and ongoing learning of training techniques to be a trainer as it requires specific skills to communicate the required message and knowledge to the audiences.

If the training is a part of the day to day activity or "on job training" specifically for jobs that requires specific skills it required technical know-how, years of experience and practical practice.

It can be both but for me having a meaningful experience will have an edge in providing real essence of the training but all we have to do is to train ourselves first the basics of being a trainer like formulating modules to sustain the program etc.

Education can give an advantage to the trainer  as it will give a better base knowledge of the trainning required but life experience wll help the trainer implement their learnt knowledge in the correct manner.

While the education is like cake base, experience is like icing on it.

The trainer with hands on experience can handle different types of target groups with absolute ease since his conviction and confidence will enhance his enthusiasm to connect with the trainees in shortest possible time in a more appropriate, relevant manner.  This will certainly enhance the effectiveness of the training imparted and the degree of achieving the objective of the training will be relatively high.  In short the education & experience if effectively delivered with human touch will add wow factor.

A little bit of both is best but more inclanation towards experience, education though is must lays the ground work but experience is what sets apart a good trainer from the rest. Hence the best of speakers & trainers globally always start & end their talks with their life experinces.

Education and Training are not connected to each other, former teaches us content and the latter channelizes the content in a manner which helps us achieve success.

Although Education is a must have in the competitive arena we live in; however, training is required for any change that needs to be achieved.

Train the trainer program should be in place in order to have effective trainings to be conducted to trainees.

Each trainer must have a qualification and experience on the field. Qualifications do not automatically make a good trainer. Good Background and annual refreshing of techniques lead to very good results.

Trainer is someone who makes up the future. Though experience is necessary to become a good trainer, but still a formal training definitely helps them build up their career and confidence level. This adds up quality to their experience. This is how we can say - Getting trained up and a handful of quality experience runs parallely.
