There is no formal education background needed to go into the real estate field, I personally know High School graduates who have done very well in Realty sales and Real Estate Investing.

Courses such as Economics, Marketing, Accounting, Paralegal, and Law certainly would help, but not compulsory

However, A lot of things have to be learned to go into the field, there is a formal training offered by most brokerages to pass the licensing exam that is required in most states/countries, In the USA there are also specialized schools for real estate and real estate investing.

Things such as real estate law, contracts and obligations, bank mortgages and financing procedures are necessary to be successful in the field.

Mentorship programs by older agents or offered by brokerages is a better form of formal education background as most of the things that need to be learned are from experience of agents on how to do listings, showings, security, negotiations, marketing, and contract closing.

This is very true that you don't need a formal  or any specific education to work in Real Estate. In India there are people who have not even ever attended a formal class and yet are working in this field.

But this is the biggest concern right now because there should be an education system , there should be only professionals who have worked hard and smart should be present in the field.

RICS and some other top institutions have started providing specialized education in these unorganized sectors with a view to create a change and deliver only tailored professionals, Luckily I am one of them.
