Desktop publishing software (abbreviated DTP) is the creation of high-quality printed documents by using page layout on a personal computer or in a workstation. When used skillfully, desktop publishing software can produce printed literature with attractive layouts and typographic quality comparable to traditional typography and printing.

1-                 A desktop publishing system allows you to use different typefaces, specify various margins and justifications, and embed illustrations and graphs directly into the text. The most powerful desktop publishing systems enable you to create illustrations; while less powerful systems let you insert illustrations created by other programs.

2-                 This technology allows individuals, businesses, and other organizations to self-publish a wide range of printed matter—from menus and local newsletters to books, magazines, and newspapers as well as producing e-books, web content, and web pages —without the sometimes-prohibitive expense of commercial printing.

3-                 As word-processing programs become more and more powerful, the line separating such programs from desktop publishing systems is becoming blurred. In general, though, desktop publishing applications give you more control over typographical characteristics, such as kerning, and provide more support for full-color output.

4-                 A particularly important feature of desktop publishing systems is that they enable you to see on the display screen exactly how the document will appear when printed. Systems that support this feature are called WYSIWYGs (what you see is what you get).

5-                 This technology also combines an inexpensive personal computer and WYSIWYG page layout software to create publication documents on a computer for either large scale publishing or small scale local DTP a little more, the user to use a microcomputer and a laser or color printer to produce relatively high-quality publications.

6-                 Until recently, hardware costs made desktop publishing systems impractical for most uses. But as the prices of personal computers and printers have fallen, desktop publishing systems have become increasingly popular for producing newsletters, brochures, books, and other documents that formerly required a typesetter.

7-                 Once you have produced a document with a desktop publishing system, you can output it directly to a printer or you can produce a PostScript file which you can then take to a service bureau. The service bureau has special machines that convert the PostScript file to film, which can then be used to make plates for offset printing. Offset printing produces higher-quality documents, especially if color is used, but is generally more expensive than laser printing

Desk-Top Publishing can be of TWO types: First is the electronic page, and second is a virtual page, i.e. to be printed on physical paper. Some of the Popular Desk-Top Publishing Softwares are many like:-

n    Adobe Frame Maker

n    Adobe PageMaker

n    Adobe InDesign

n    Adobe HomePublisher

n    Corel Ventura

n    Microsoft Office Publisher

n    OpenOffice.org

n    QuarkXPress

n    Scribus

n    Xara Photo & Graphic Designer

A data Entry operator is the one who will be given a control panel for posting, editing or deleting your addresses, and full time DTP PageMaker or one who definitely knows DTP Desktop Publishing should good in typing speed, and having a working knowledge of English, as well as should have an internet connection, a computer & Permission for posting these addresses

There are several full forms for DTP like:

-                     Data Tools Platform

-                     Desk top publishing,

-                     Disturbing the peace,

-                     Dynamic Trunking Protocol,

-                     Diplomacy Training Program,

-                     Digital Text Platform

-                     and many more.

During its early years, desktop publishing acquired a bad reputation as a result of untrained users who created poorly-organized ransom note effect. Once considered a primary skill, increased accessibility to more user-friendly DTP software has made DTP a secondary skill to art direction, graphic design, multimedia development, marketing communications, administrative careers and advanced high school literacy in thriving economies.

DTP skill levels range from what may be learned in a few hours (e.g. learning how to put clip art in a word processor) to what requires a college education and years of experience (e.g. advertising agency positions). DTP skills range from technical skills (such as prepress production and programming) to creative skills (such as communication design and graphic image development).

a-                 Virtual paper pages will ultimately be printed, and therefore require paper parameters that coincide with international standard physical paper sizes such as "A4," "letter," etc., if not custom sizes for trimming.

b-                 Electronic pages can be dynamically re-sized, causing either the content to scale in size with the page or causing the content to re-flow like a web page.

c-                 Master pages are templates used to automatically copy or link elements and graphic design styles to some or all the pages of a multipage document.

d-                 Page layout is the process by which the elements are laid on the page orderly, aesthetically, and precisely.

e-                 Graphic design styles such as color, transparency, and filters, may also be applied to layout elements.

f-                  Typography styles may be applied to text automatically with style sheets. Some layout programs include style sheets for images in addition to text.

g-                 Graphic styles for images may be border shapes, colors, transparency, filters, and a parameter designating the way text flows around the object called "wraparound" or "runaround."
