How does Facebook show me ads for something I was searching on Google? Is that safe or ethical?

This question is becoming quite common, it has actually become "in your face" kind of advertising.

Does google pass on information to Facebook? No.

But your device id, ip address, device name, your browser cookies do.

So if you recently searched for a car on Chrome using your laptop and at some point of time used Facebook afterwards in the same device, the cookie passes on the information to facebook. This is straightforward. 

When it comes to Facebook app, if you clicked on the allow button, you gave it access to your search history, device id, cloud id and a whole lot of identifiers.
