Both options are valuable and will enhance career prospects. It depends on the need of the Physician. If he intends to do a full time project management role PMP is the way to go.
If he intends to do maybe 4-8 hours of project management a week then the PMP is simply overkill and AAPL's program will more than suffice - it is also a more cost effective route.
