The companies and banks do not hold all of it's funds in bank accounts. Part of own and  borrowed funds are invested in other assets with different time of return. Liquidity management is team in company, people who working to recover the funds invested in the purchase of its assets, ensure proper ratio between different types of assets, so that in ugrent need of funds of these assets to be sold in good opportunity in every moment to be sold in good price.
