Distributed Control System. A Computer Control System that controls various digital & analog input outputs from instruments and controls on the basis of cause & effect logics implemented in DCS.

A distributed control system (DCS) like plc but the controller elements are not central in location (like the brain) but are distributed throughout the system with each component sub-system controlled by one or more controllers. The entire system of controllers is connected by networks for communication and monitoring.

DCS means distributed control system. Means control is distributed rather than in a centralised system. That means individual process unit have a control system with specified controllers and logics  and this will be communicated with DCS of other units through communication network . In short each unit have separate control rather than under a single platform. Means even if one system of unit fails other unit will not be disturbed without affecting the production.

It is a control system that has a network containing redundancy having specific number of controllers , analogue and digital I/O's , Monitoring and diagnostic system distributed all over the specified area of Control and having a common control room to monitor and Diagnose the errors either manually or mainly Automatically to achieve Safe and controlled process.
