For a new gulf expat, which Arabic dialect would be the best to learn in terms of communicating & reading/writing?

For me, its not advisable to talk a dialect other than yours, alternatively, talk the official Arabic language, 

GCC dialect would better. but if you don't have GCC as an option go for Jordanian or Palestinian dialect, these dialects are far vastly understood then egyptian ir any north african arabic dialect.
