In Banking or Financial Industry angle due diligence means the measures taken to ensure that whatever data you captured or the customer claimed as per the legal/regulatory requirement is accurate. For instance, the address which the customer claimed that belongs to him/her could be verified by requesting a proof of the rental agreement, or a utility bill of the same address under the customer name or by checking any publicly available data such as national population register etc. On the basis of the risk involved the bank o FIs may perform a simplified due diligence or enhanced due diligence. A Due Diligence is an audit launched by the purchaser/investor in order to appreciate the value of the investment. Depending on the results of the audit (review of legal and finance documentation), the purchaser would be able to make an appropriate offer to the seller. It would also allow the parties to determine the scope and importance of the guarantees to be granted by the seller to the purchaser.

Due Diligence could also be launched by the seller (vendor due diligence) in order to present its assets to the potential purchasers.

Due diligence is an act of observing and adhering to the does and don't (policies and procedures) of an organisation.
