What is the method for subsurface mapping from Landsat image and Erdas imagine, or any other?

i do use free Landsat image e.g landsat7 or8 to for lithological mapping in preliminary studies and or reconnaissance survey by applying band ratio, multiplication subtraction and so on with in options available in software in this subject like Erdas and Envi. but always i find difficulties to interpret subsurface units.

is there anybody have idea about the best ways or method to help me in this topic.

Observation of changings in geological featchers on landsat image like :--colour-Tone-size-shape-Grey scaleThis parameters help in  primary estimation of geological setting in the areathe landsat image is the base map for geological map of the area.limiting of the geological featchers on the landsat image & esimation of natural status on location. The parameters of landsat image help me in estimation of rocks & soil types , topography , surface water , drainage systems &........ .visiting on the location & observation of geological feachers on lacation.comperation between geological feachers in landsat image & geological feachers on the location.using of office tools like trace papers , 0.5 pencils , rulers & ..........very important on the map paper :-title - north direction - legend & scale.using field tools in location like lenses ,  compuses , markers , hummers & ....... for litho formation , strike & dips of rocks layers

  • observation of geological structures on location like fualts , folds , unconformaty , grabens , foliation & .........

  • The past info on locatoin like boreholes info , past studies very important in geological mapping

  • observation of boundaries & physical contact between rocks types.

  • geological ages for rocks formaations

  • fossils & chemical activity

  • painting of rocks formation .

  • exploration of subsurface water , minerals & hydrocarbons , mainly water & hydrocarbons in sedimentry rocks & minerals in igeoneous & metamorphic rocks (basement rocks) , but some water in basement rocks & some minerals in sedimentry rocks.
