How do we integrate different types of RTUs in existing SCADA system assuming protocol support by the RTUs are 1. same 2.different?

if protocols are the same then u have no problem

but different u should get some converter for a standard protocol with your scada

I will assume that SCADA systems means SCADA software.

 

For adding more RTUs to the SCADA system

  • CASE (A) : you new RTUs has the same protocol that is supported by your SCADA software, so this is easy case you can integrate them in your system but the number of the new RTUs added will depend on the size of the SCADA system license you have
  • CASE (B) : The new RTUs don't have the same protocol, so you have two solutions

1.     to use a hardware protocol converter for the different RTUs protocols to a common protocol but this solution is headache and difficult to maintain

 

2.     the other solution is to buy OPC server ( software) to be installed on the PC communicating with the RTUs and then the SCADA OPC client can get data from it, so its like adding the power to your SCADA software to read from different RTUs protocols
