What should a good home escape plan include?

A fire escape plan better be drafted at the home designing stage, however in most cases people do them afterwards, and therefore it should include the following:

1. House/apartment layout/drawings showing: doors, exits, windows, fire hazards, electrical hazards, fire extinguishers, stairs and meeting place

2. Safe evacuation procedure

3. Safety arrangements information (hints and emergency contact numbers)

Keep it simple, clear and practice it couple of time a year

it depends if the building have an exit stairs. but first:

1. confine the fire(close door)

2.dont open any window or balcony door

3.call the fire department while escaping

4.switch the main electrical braker

Fire can spread rapidly through your home, leaving you as little as one or two minutes to escape safely once the alarm sounds. A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room and outside each separate sleeping area. Install alarms on every level of the home. Smoke alarms should be interconnected. When one sounds, they all sound. Pull together everyone in your household and make a plan. Walk through your home and inspect all possible exits and escape routes. Households with children should consider drawing a floor plan of your home, marking two ways out of each room, including windows and doors. Also, mark the location of each smoke alarm. For easy planning, 

1. WHATEVER AND HOWEVER MAY BE THE PLAN, SHARE IT TO ALL AT HOME, REHEARSE THE PLAN TILL YOU ELIMINATE FLAWS

2. SHOULD INCLUDE PLAN FOR CHILDREN AND ELDERS WHO CANNOT ASSIST THEMSELVES IN CASE OF ANY INCIDENT 

Each room should include two ways of access and egress in the case of emergency (doors and windows).

Illuminated (Exit) Signs hanging on top of the door if the power goes off.

Posted signs and maps on walls and corridores that are easy to find to indicate the location of the person at the moment and the shortest way or path to the nearest exit door.

easy to use emergency exit doors (Push Bar Doors) that usually require simple way to open, and less possibility of getting jammed.

Proper emergency drills, to test the effectivness of the escape plan and evaluate it, to identify its flaws and eliminate them.

A pre assigned assymbly point that is located in a safe area away from the facility.

signs posted outside of the elevators to instruct not to use the elevators in case of an emergency.

for higher floors, a ladder or stairway should be installed outside the escape door or window, to allow the occupants reach safety.
