To remain calm and patient is to learn unconditional acceptance, which comes about when you begin asking questions to yourself such as: Why do I feel such resistance towards close minded people? Why do I feel the need to convince them? Why do I need to be right? Etc…

You also probably notice that when you get into an argument with someone who is close minded, you become more rigid and close minded yourself. You might even argue with that person for days. But the more you develop the ability to compassionately accept people wherever they are, the more open minded you become. The less you resist, the more you can forgive and accept.

Being open minded doesn’t mean you’re gullible. It means that you’re receptive to new ideas and willing to consider other perspective to see if they hold any value. The more you can openly consider ideas without resisting the people behind them, the fast you can grow as a human being.

Bottomline, you need to believe that not being able to understand someone who is closed minded doesn’t make you a closed minded person. We become closed-minded when we refuse to listen to reason and other arguments. I suggest that you give those around you with those beliefs the opportunity to explain them to you with the understanding between you that you have no intention of adopting the belief but simply listening to the rationale of why they believe. One of the great things about having someone explain something step by step to you is that you quickly begin to see how well they understand it and in most cases it exposes the flaws in their thinking. Whether you want to argue the facts is up to you. This should make you a positive person and to keep you calm and patient.

First of all you need to define the level of someone being open minded. No one likes being called narrow minded. First define the level for being OPEN MINDED and then make sure you respect the levels set by ohers for themselves.
