The term organisational project management was conied by the PMI Inc USA in late 90's and defined as the framework for the execution and implementation of an organisation's strategies through projects by putting together a methodology of portfolio, program, and project management. In the PMI standards, the term "Organizational Project Management (OPM)" is used to indicate that project management framework is used for executing strategies through project processes.

However, there are competing OPM framework of RPINCE2, MSP etc too.

It is the application of body of knowledge of various skills,tools ,techniques and other activities to meet project requirements of any organisation.

It includesn among other things the following:-

  1. Leadership tasks including visioning and leading and motivating.
  2. Gen Administrative tasks including planning,monitoring and controlling.
