While reviewing resumes, how much importance do you put on certification vs job experience?

السلام عليكم

We recently hired a desktop support with an MCSE. There was a problem with one of the computers and he was asked to check on the machine's IP address, said MCSE didn't know how to get it. Was told to go to a command prompt and type IPCONFIG, he didn't know where the command prompt was! He was then told to go to the control panel, he didn't know where that was!!! Yet he was able to produce a genuine MCSE!!!

How much weight do you give a certification on someone's resume vs their job experience?

Certification and Job experience can be judged at certain level by putting up different level of questions and answers.  In my opinion, an experienced candidate should be judged on the basis of "how much of exposure he/she has got related to the profile" because "exposure counts a lot more than an experience".  Experience can be gained sitting at one table for many years but not exposure.  So if a candidate is judged by exposure company will have to bear less iteration rate and will get its best employees ever.

exoerience is quite essential, however, it has to be augmented by certification so that you are always quick and flexible fit in and changes be it technologically or ellse.

It is playing an important role
