Dear Friend,

"It's essential to select the right objects to match their properties to the other files' objects. I'm an enthusiast of the good ol' tool palettes environment for CAD standards implementation. Because I work with many veteran CAD users, it's not always easy or straightforward to implement new features (such as annotative features). Also, we found that objects from a tool palette will disable their annotative features; Match Properties won't. "To make a long story short, this method has served us well for some time now. CAD users who earlier refused to adopt annotative features (or change) now feel much more in their comfort zone, and this Match Properties technique seems to deserve a large part of the credit." Notes from Cadalyst Tip Reviewer Brian Benton: Match Properties works across files. It doesn't seem to work across multiple tabs in the same file, though. The key to using this tip is having a standard file. This file should have all of your major layers in it, as well as title block and object styles (dimension, text, etc.). That way everyone has a place to go to get the standard settings. Every file should be started with the template file, but sometimes that's not an option. Often we receive files from outside sources that do not match our standards. Getting them up to snuff can be difficult, but Match Properties will help.

Poonam

Match properties

An object can have a lot of properties and sometimes you want one object to have the same properties as another object. Here are 3 tools that you can use to get the job done quickly.

Many of AutoCAD users already know that we can match object properties using MATCHPROP (or MA for short key in). This tool is very handy for you who wants to change an object properties to copy other object’s. But many don’t realize that there are some settings that we can use in this tool. It allows us to use this tool to match only a specific property. So you don’t have to use separate tool like LAYERMCH to match only layer. Let’s say you want to copy an object line style. But you don’t want to copy it’s color, layer, and any other properties. Let’s try to activate this tool. Type MA then hit [enter]. You can also use activate this tool from AutoCAD ribbon> home tab> clipboard panel.

Match Properties

Command:  MATCHPROP Select source object: Current active settings:  Ltype Ltscale Dim Text Hatch Polyline Viewport Table Material Shadow display Multileader Select destination object(s) or [Settings]: After you activate the tool, pay attention that there is an option to choose settings in AutoCAD command line. Type S then hit [enter].

You will see property settings dialog box. Uncheck anything that you don’t want to change. Click OK. Now you can copy selective properties to your AutoCAD objects!

Refer to the following video s:

1-Match Properties

The MATCHPROP command has been around a long time and lets you easily copy properties from one object to another.Watch it in action.

2-Match a layer only

If you want to match a layer and nothing else, you can use the LAYERMCH command, which is available in recent releases of AutoCAD and as an Express Tool in earlier releases. Be careful, because it works differently from MATCHPROP. Watch the video.

Use MATCHPROP (Modify menu->Match properties). First select the Source object (viewport you want to copy properties from) and then select Target object (viewport you want to copy properties to). You can also uncheck the Viewport checkbox in the Matchprop Property Settings dialog if you don't want to copy the viewport layer property overrides.
