The state of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a condition characterized by the development of specific symptoms following exposure to a traumatic event in a context of death, death threats, serious injury or sexual abuse.

symptoms that are related to PTSD are:

*Flashbacks: recurrent and intrusive recollections of the event,nightmares,flashbacks

Distress or physiological reactivity on exposure to stimuli associated with the traumatic event

*Avoidance: Avoidance of memories, thoughts and feelings related to trauma

Avoidance of the elements (people, places, activities, objects, situations) recalling the trauma

*Cognitive and emotional changes: Inability to recall an important aspect of the traumatic event, persistent and exaggerated negative beliefs about self, others or the world, Tend to blame themselves, persistent negative emotions (fear, horror, anger, guilt, shame), Decreased interest in activities, Feelings of detachment from others, Restrictions positive emotions

*The hyperactivation of the nervous system: Irritability or angry outbursts, reckless or self destructivebehavior hypervigilance, bursts, concentrating difficulties, sleep difficulties.

-The cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for PTSD:The results of several controlled studies confirm that CBT is effective in treating PTSD. CBT generally obtained a success rate of to% with victims of various types of traumatic events. In fact, at present, CBT represent the psychotherapeutic approach of choice for treating PTSD. That would be the one that gives the best results and which promotes healing, decreased symptoms or a full recovery.

PTSD,  is a serious debilitating condition in people who experience or witness a natural disaster, serious accident, terrorist incident, sudden death of a loved one, war, violent personal assault such as rape, or other life-threatening events. Symptoms include; sleep disorder with nightmares, introduction of phobias and anxieties, irritability and aggression, loss of acquired skills.

 

CBT, Family Therapy, Relaxation Techniques (deep breathing, meditation, yoga might help), Antidepressants do help but with side effects (dry mouth, dizziness, weight gain etc.).
