Is it compulsory to go through all five project management process group to complete the project?

we have a term in PMbok which call it tailoring,

It means between Knowledge areas we should find which of them is suitable to our project then use it . For process groups I haven't seen any example that those process groups could be selected. for moving from a phase to next phase maybe some people skip initiating process group.
