Skin effect is the tendency of an alternating electric current (AC) to become distributed within a conductor such that the current density is largest near the surface of the conductor, and decreases with greater depths in the conductor.

the phenomenon arising the unequal distrubution of current over the entire cross section of conductor  being used for long distance.that is called as a skin effect in power transmission line

The skin effect in an ac system depends on a number of factors like :Shape of conductor ,type of material, diameter of the conductors and operational frequency.

Current will flow on the surface of the conductor, this situation happens in AC only.

The tendency of alternating current to concentrate near the surface of conductor is know as skin effect

The tendency of alternating current to concentrate near the surface of conductor is know as skin effect. The cause of skin effect is the strands if conductor near center are surrounded by greater magnetic field and hence have large inductance than the near surface strands. Thus high reactance of inner strands cause the alternating current to flow near the surface of conductor

When a conductor is carrying steady dc the current get uniformly distributed over the whole cross section of the conductor but an ac flowing through the conductor does not distribute uniformly, rather it concentrates near the surface of the conductor. This is known as skin effect in transmission line.

Due to this effect, the effective cross sectional area  of the conductor through current flows is reduced. Consequently, the resistance of the conductor is slightly increased when carrying an alternating current. The cause of skin effect can be easily explained. A solid conductor may be thought to be consisting of a large number of strands, each carrying a small part of the current. The inductance of each strand will vary according to its position. Thus, the strands near the center are surrounded by a greater magnetic flux and hence have larger inductance than that near the surface. The high reactance of inner strands causes the alternating current to flow near the surface of conductor. This crowding of current near the conductor surface is the skin effect.

It is the shift of the surface electrons wiring official intensity when you connect the AC current density shall be in the midst of a mild wires for density at the surface.
