Let me tell you why my statement carries a sarcasm. Petroleum Engineering is one of the most praised engineering stream in India and believe me it is.But since there are limited number of companies in this branch of engineering that sometime getting a Job of your choice becomes a tough job.Now a question arises that to which field of Petroleum Engineering you are associated with? Whether you are a Driller or Refiner or Geophysicist or Petroleum Tools Developer.Let me clear you that Petroleum Sector works on Experience and Knowledge basis. So you need to put the required details in your resume to suit the Job you are trying to apply.Pointer or CGPA do matters but not always they are value points.Just focus on your skills and present youself like an Asset to the company and I am assuring you that No Employer would hesitate to offer you a job.Coming to you question, let me tell you few utilities which you should follow:

  1. Strengthen up you Network like Seniors and other knowns who are currently working in sector. This will help you to get Informations regarding New Openings.
  2. Join some Job Portals like Naukari.com or Monster.com.They really work if u provide a perfect Detail of your skills and requirements.
  3. Be a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers. It will help you in two ways, one way by Updating you with Current Development of Sector and secondly by providing you links to some Big Oil Giants.
  4. If u can spare time do some Part Time Courses of Well Control conducted by Institute of Drilling Technology,Dehradun or if you can afford do some certification from abroad. It will really going to give you edge in your Job Interviews.
  5. Be Update and Be Energetic. Oil Sector is in need of Skilled Manpower.

You can go Abroad provided you have someone there who can tell you about openings and other required details.Just dont get into trap of Job Consultants as they may prove fraudulent.Better you work in India and develop your skills in a particluar branch of Petroleum Engineering and then try for Overseas Jobs. Just show your Potential and you will get Job of your wish.Best Wishes.

I would say that such major (Petroleum Engineering) could be one of many jobs that have low market competitions  in market, especially in Gulf region.

You should find open vacancies and start applying. Accept any position in order to build experience !
