It depends from person to person. If you find yourself interested in the field, you might be able to understand the subject without anyone's help. Self-study is the best in this case. If you need someone's assistance take a course. Courses are available ranging from 3 days to MS in the subjects. It's you who has to make a decision. The advice of Mr. Yaqoob is also worthwhile.

Project management fundamentally is about managing people, not tools. Tools are there to assist. The types of tools/applications used depends on the need of the project. MS project is the easiest one to learn and the one that is most commonly used.

I would say the more important skill for a project manager is soft skills. What do you do when the project is running behind schedule? What would you do when a key team member unexpectedly quit? How do you keep a disgruntled client happy? Etc.

Project Management:

1.  Please read any standard book on project management and discuss the same who is practicing project management chapter by chapter, you will get good start in Project Management

2.  Attend a six week /twelve course on project Management in an institutional setting, you will become a good project Manager

3.  Finally, you may opt for PMP course and get a PMP certification (may take two to three years), you will become Certified Project Management Professional

When you say law Management, I would assume Business Law rather than “degree in Law”. If this is business law, this will be covered in Project Management course or else, you learn through self-study or attending a short course in Business law.
