Based on Harvard business review, i advice the leader to do the following to avoid micromanagement in his team:

1-Reflect on your behavior

2-Get feedback.

3-Prioritize what matters—and what doesn’t.

4-Talk to your team.

5-Step back slowly.

6-Build trust.

Finally, Principles to Remember to every leader to avoid mismanagement .

Do:

  • Ask yourself why you micromanage and reflect on your need for control
  • Refine your to do list by prioritizing the tasks and projects that matter most to you

Don’t:

  • Renege on your vote of confidence—tell your reports you trust them and let them do their jobs
  • Overact when things don’t go exactly as you’d like them to—take a breath and figure out a way to correct the situation if it’s truly necessary

Micro-managing can create an environment of mistrust and therefore does not allow your employees to learn or grow. There is even the possibility that they just become 'do-ers' not 'thinkers'.  Basically, you may block your employees from advancing in their own careers by not allowing them to step outside of their comfort zone.

A good leader will be one who can see the big picture, not one whose mind is filled with minute details about every task being performed by the team. A good leader will consider and hopefully, accept new ideas and allow the team to be proactive in their approaches to tasks/goals etc.

Some examples would be to create a vision statement for your team; prioritise well; create lists of tasks in order of highest value to the organisation to lowest; assign tasks to those with the right skills, train your employees, and last but not least delegate.
