There are few basic steps you may start with, but in fact the first and most important step is: Now More about your product/service:

It is vital to know what you're talking about when you initiate contact with a new lead, prepare a presentation or a quotation, and mostly when you go for the kill and close the deal.

Then build your value in the market, whither it is the price vs. service, loyalty to the brand, hosting events where your clients make sure they are updated all the time about what you are actually presenting to the market.

Be different: if you take a look to any market there are many competitors, so please make sure you don't present yourself as just another salesman/saleswoman.

Be organized (Please!!!!!) I am sure you know what I am talking about, thinking of all the leads you almost lost or did in fact for not being prepared or had some conflict in your schedule (I am talking from personal experience) and it was not a happy one :\\

Be Loyal: Don't expect your clients to come back to you or build a huge referrals by having doubts about your service/product. There is always a space for improvement, but this is another conversation you want to have with quality assurance or your major suppliers.

Be a part of the marketing plan:  You want to know where your leads are coming from and how did they get to pick the phone and call you.

Don't end a relation once you closed a deal: No one likes a one night stand, I sure hope you agree, but anyway, keep your client with in your reach, something always happen and they might want a refill or ask a friend to trust you because you don't just disappear like every one else.

Have faith always, make sure you are adding value to your clients live or business and never hesitate to show that at any given chance.

Go for the kill: once you see you presented enough information, value and documentations go for it and close the deal at once, there is no better time than now, and life won't wait you to make a decision.

Love your job: and I do mean it, you are dealing with humans, and if you can't like it, then you are in the wrong business, that is not the end of the world though, but you really need to enjoy this part of business to be able to exceed your limits beyond the normal expectations and become a master of the art of sales.

Here you go, that was few points, and I hope I made your life easier ...
