First off all we need to understand the need and reason of doing so, because without knowing the background comment on such situation is unethical also.

If you are the only son or daughter and you are staying away from your parents, you would require

1) someone to take care of your parents,

2) Safety first

3) Should not feel lonely

4) Activity to do

Lets take a scenario for better understanding

You are from an Asian origin and you are forced to stay in US as you have to support your family, as US is far away and your parents are old they wish to stay back in your home country.

a) Under such situation you have to keep someone as a caretaker at your house. There are many incidents which we have heard of, an elderly couple killed for money by their servant, what will you do.

b) Your parents are with your relative, how long will your relatives keep them??

c) your parents stay alone, what if something happens to them??

Under the above scenario you are forced to ask them to stay at a nursing home. People will take care of them, they will stay healthy, they will be secured.

Although personally I would not prefer my parents staying at nursing home, I would like them to stay with him. But for many people it might not be possible due to various reason to be with their parents, not looking for ethical or not they will be forced to put them in nursing home. The decision is tough to take by situation force humans to take lot of tough decision.

A person would wish to get the parents looked after by hospital staff or via a home for the aged, expecting that the mother or father would get the best attention that the son or the daughter cannot provide.  If the parents need timely medication, hospital staff would attend to same accurately.  If the parents need assistance to move about, and if the children are not capable of paying attention due to reason beyond their control such as required to go to work or has to attend children's studies, etc., then the best way of handling such parents is either by employing nursing staff at the residence or by keeping the parents in the hospital.  The main idea of keeping the elderly parents in a nursing home is to ensure that timely attention in all activities where you will sometimes fail due to other commitments at home.  Therefore, based on the motive, this is not unethical.

I think each case is different than the other, but if the elderly parents are sick and they need some

professional care form nurses and doctors than this is acceptable because they will be able to take

care of them more effectively.

For me it's unethical to put elderly parents in a nursing home, because when we need them they help us and love us whether in our study, game and any type of problem like when we got any health issue they give us proper care untill we cure. So now when they need how we left them in nursing home alone? They miss their family and no one there for them to listen their problem. But if you have a busy schedule then you can hire nurse at your home who care your elder and main thing your elder would we with you forever. Affordable Medical Resources offer a nursing home facility for your elder people so to give your parents proper care in your home. But we know many people leave their parents in old age home because they have no time for them as they do the job or busy in their business and have no time for them, so for proper care they send them in old age home which is right.

In addition to the answers, I would like to say that it is a controversial issue! It depends on people's culture, and circumstances !

So if you think it is better to keep them in a nursing home where they will be taken care of and helped because you cannot do that (busy, sickness...etc), I believe it should be ok

If you can take care of them by yourself, it will be the best choice !

Cultural differences. What's unethical for you maybe ethical for others. Care of the elderly is culturally based. We as medical professionals should understand that. We need to consider seriously the cultural background of our patients/clients in order to care, manage and treat them effectively. We have no right, whosoever, to tell people that their culture is wrong. Instead of doing so, we try to teach and educate people and let them decide. Share your cultural practices and your norms with them. At the end of the day, it is our patients' decision, not ours.

" And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but Him, and goodness to your parents. If either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) " Ogh" nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word. And make yourself submissively gentle to them with compassion, and say: O my Lord! have compassion on them, as they brought me up (when I was) little." ( Al-Essrae' 23-24 )

I don't think there is anything else we can add after reading these Holy verses from the Holy Quran.
