Validation list is a list to choose from it which you want, but inserting a combo box is just for one option
Validation allows to add multiple options or listings as per requirements. But, whereas the combo box is just for one option.
A list box displays a list from which the user may make a selection. The default behaviour is to permit a single selection, but multiple selections are also permitted by changing the SelectionMode accordingly.A combo box combines a list box with a text box, but the list is limited to single selections only. Changing the DropDownStyle alters the behaviour of the combo box.
A data validation list doesn't have an auto-complete feature.
If you want that feature you could use an ActiveX combo box from the Developer tab.
A data validation list and a combo box are similar but work differently.
Combo box vs data validation drop down list differences
It depends on what type of combo box you're using. The main difference between a combo box and a data validation drop down list is that a combo box does not occupy a cell. A combo box "floats" above the worksheet. A data validation drop down list does occupy a cell. So, when you make a selection from a data validation drop down list that selection is entered as the value of the cell. When you make a selection from a combo box (there are 2 types of combo boxes) that selected value is not entered into any cell automatically. You have to format the combo box to enter the selection in a cell and the cell can be any cell of your choice. The cell that will hold the selection is called the linked cell. In other words, this cell is linked to this combo box.
You can use Data Validation to create a dropdown list of options in a cell. Also, Data Validation doesn't have an AutoComplete feature, which finds matching items in the list as you start to type.
To overcome these limitations, you can add a combo box to your worksheet, and use programming to make it appear in cells that contain a data validation list

Combo box comes from Developers tab and you can use Form Controls (more simple) and Active X controls (more detailed, similar to MS Access way of structure).
