Before During and After Welding.
Before Welding
1. Check the WPS
2. Welder Certificate
3. Welding Machine and related equipment Calibration
4. ISO Drawing
5. Joint Root Gap, Bevel Angle, Alignment, Material as per drawing, Preheat if applicable
6. Check Electrode as per WPS and its baking.
During Welding
1. Amp and Volt
2. If possible check the root
3. Inter pass temperature
4. Inter pass cleaning
5. For WQT as run conditions
After Welding
1. Check the weld caping for defects such as surface cracks, Arc strikes, Undercuts, Overlaps, Blow holes etc.
2. If possible to check root check Root concavities, Root undercuts, Lack of penetration, Excess Penetration, Lack of root fusion, Incomplete fusion etc.
3. if the joint is visually acceptable proceed for NDT. if not repair or reject the joint as per allowable limit.
It would not have been found by any inspection method. All weld joints shall be monitored as per standards and WPS. Extra monitoring is good for toxic service, hydrocarbon service, Alloy steel material.
the objective of the inspector is to see that the welding activities are being performed as per given code and standard. the welding in as per wps and drawing. the parameters are in permissible range , and activities are as per itp.

Monitor and Control welding activities to achieve required specfication
Execute the field welding inspection, surveillance and Quality Control activities on site, collecting the relevant objective proofs, ensuring that all welding operations are executed in accordance with all relevant Codes of Practices and Company procedures/practices,witness the NDE activities
- Consumable Storage & Handling, Consumable Specification.
- Monitoring of Welding process/Equipment Conditions.
- Welding procedure specification, Welding procedure qualification records.
- Welders repair rate controlling, Welder map maintain for each projects.
- Pre-Heat/Weather Conditions.
- Visual Inspection for surface appearance and weld soundness and witness the NDT activities .
- Ensuring Safety of Each Workers during the entire shift.
