PMBOK v5. and Rita Mulkahi's book are very good ,,,but they are focusing on passing the PMP exam and getting the degree...there are also much more gides which provide definitions and strategies of project management (The Definitive Guide to Project Management by Nokes, Sebastian - PMI’s Governance of Portfolios, Programs, and Projects: A Practice Guide - Project Management Pathways by Martin Stevens and a lot more )

but i beleive that even though reading is necessary....but the practical experience is essential....may even more important....one of the reasons is books assume the ideal case but in reality this is never true

There are many handbooks on Project Management dealing with various aspects of Project Management. However, I have found the following book very clear and concise with several nice examples.
