As as Frontend Web Developer I would be able to explain how XML works in Web.
As in AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) XML is used to transfer data between a server and a client. Server exposes and API (Application programming interface, simply a language to which to computer understand and communicate). It's kind of data transportation format.
Later on JavaScript is a key to extract data from XML and display in the website.
XML is also used in configuration files. But data communication isn't limited to X in AJAX because JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is the new replacement. It's clean and more importantly it's close to JavaScript (as it's by-self a JavaScript Object) which makes easier to interact with.
1.XAML is a declarative application language that focuses on object definition, their properties, and their relationship between one another.
2.XML is a markup language created by W3C that is used to describe other markup languages.
3.XML is used in web publishing to create interactive pages, for web searching, and to automate certain web tasks. It finds use in e-commerce and helps in displaying information on wireless devices and cellphones.
4.XAML is used to create, edit, and reuse GUIs for Windows and certain web applications like Silverlight plug-ins.
5.XAML is currently available for only the Windows platform. It will be eventually moved to other platforms over a period of time. XML is set to replace HTML because of its flexibility.

XML is industry standard used mainly to transport data between deferent platforms like Microsoft platform and Java platform, this language use SOAP as transport protocol.
XAML is special type of XML developed by Microsoft and you can consider it as XML schema used in Microsoft products ex: SharePoint use XAML to build workflows (declarative workflow).
If you understand the concepts of XML and XML schema it will be easy for your to learn any new special type developed by specific vendor.
XAML is based on XML but both are different.XML is designed to store data or works with stored data.XAML (read as Zammel) stands for eXtensible Application Markup Language and it is based on XML (eXtensible Markup Language). XAML is developed by Microsoft to use behind the visual representation of an application.
.All XAML documents are also valid XML documents, but the vice-versa case doesn’t hold true.
XML is a markup language whereas XAML is a declarative application language.
- XML finds its use primarily in web applications in contrast to XAML which is used to design controls for Windows as well as web applications.
