Colors implicitly project a certain personality.
I found this really helpful infographic and to a very large extent you can see that a lot of well known brands use these principles: http://nowsourcing.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/louisville-painter.html Such as black, silver, white and gold are used to project luxury, exclusivity and sophistication.

Obviously there is no best color list.
The best colors are the color combinations that are harmonious and don’t feel odd to the eye.
Try reading more about the color wheel theory.
But always put in mind that all rules are made to be broken when it come to art and design.
Of course there is another side to look at this which is color meanings; although that also differs from one culture to another.

It very much depends on: - the brand personality - the brand objective - the brand positioning - the target audience All of the above would help define what is the most appropriate color and design that would best deliver on the message and attract the primary target audience.

Mainly depends on two points: - The kind of the brands or the products you are working for.
And you have to be more careful if you are working for some thing else with no specific sensed, for example “service, play, event, seminar, concert…etc.” - Second, the kind of feeling you want to send, is it a feeling of calmness, warm, health, money, tranquility, love, luxury, rough…etc ?! Notice, the well and the good knowledge for the first point help you definitely to make the right job in the second point.
