According to Patti Coons, author of “Gala!,” you should follow up soon after you’ve sent your press release.
She recommended the following techniques: Call after sending a press release to make sure the news outlet got it.
Call the day before the event to remind them of the particulars and find out if someone from the station or paper will be covering it.
Ask if the reporter will be bringing a camera crew or photographer, or whether you should send pictures.
Call the day of the event.
Call after the event to see if they need any more information.
If you tell someone you are going to get back to him or her with information or material, do it.
People in the media understand that it is your business to promote the event.
It is also your job to be professional, courteous, and reliable.
