Managing your manager or "managing up" is a very important factor in your career success.
Your manager at times will have extremely unrealistic expectations from you but you need to ensure that if you can't meet their expectations, you clearly communicate this to them along with the reasons.
The manager can still be unrealistic but with time, you need to ensure that you manage their expectations of you.
Being open with them about the progress of projects also helps.
