Cartography is a science and art of making maps, map making involves a combinaion between scientific and artisitc elements. its not enough that you know about geography or GIS science and different spatial processes or analysis, The traditional analog methods of map making have been replaced by digital systems capable of producing dynamic interactive maps that can be manipulated digitally.

 you need to have a talent in arts and a good knowledge in graphic software and some techniques. one of common example of this combination between scientific and artistic elements is ArcGIS and Adobe illustrator and Mapbublisher, where ArcGIS is a scientific application that used to create spatial data layers and attribute, and apply different spatial analysis and geoprocesses, where adobe illustrator is an artistic application used to produce a high quality graphic elements, we can export our spatial data project into Adobe illustrator and handle it as a grapgich elements, where a millions of collors and unlimited symbols and many other amazing elements.
