Each sector has different culture... Lean experts are generally comes from automotive sector. They are not so successfull in furniture, joinery or textile sectors because they expect same behaviour from the employee.

I also lead a Lean Transformation in furniture industry. I also managed lean transformation in automotive, trailer, aluminium, electrical and service sectors. So I can compare it with others.

Furniture/joinery workers are crusty comparing to others. They feel they are unique and they feel without them the factory can not go on production. Ok, it is sometimes similar in others but as I experienced they are tough. Painting is still depend on craftmanship, joinery is also like this.

Lean requires multi-skilled workers. Competency should not be depend on individuals. Furniture and joinery industries are still not so developed about competencies comparing to automotive and others.

Totally agree with you Mr. GOKHAN TASDEVIREN, the main challenge is the resistance of the skilled worker to adopt lean culture

I've been involved in lean transformation project for joinery plant in Dubai with multi culture workers, results were good in some aspects as enhancing workflow, production time and quality but you know lean is about to success or fail as a cohesive system.

In Egypt i tried to apply lean manufacturing in furniture plant, everything was going well except human factor, even with changing factory layout and using information system like IMOS, but at the end problem remains at the assembling area and finishing as well.
