market research is about knowing the product acceptance, market narrowing, customer feedback and how many competitors are in the market whereas competitor analysis is about evaluating a specific competitor or competitors and its actions

Market research is more about segmenting, targeting and positioning your product or service to the customers. Competitor analysis is the activity that you undertake in order to understand the opportunities and threats that your business is facing.
