Layer 3 Switch (It as work as switching as well as Router ,It has Layer 2 and Layer 3 functions) , We can configure switch and routing functionality on same device ,If you want to ping 10.0.0.1 to 172.20.45.1 , need to configure Routing b/w 10.0.0.1 and 172.20.45.1
If it is a layer3 switch then it acts exactly as the router as all the layer3 features is added to it as a result of that it can normally ping any IP address in any other network if it has a route to it
