Within each application, Office2010 has improved functionality in many areas. When the2007 Microsoft Office system was released, a significant difference from Office2003 was the introduction of the ribbon in the user interface (UI) for Microsoft Office Access2007, Microsoft Office Excel2007, Microsoft Office PowerPoint2007, Microsoft Office Word2007, and parts of Microsoft Office Outlook2007. The UI changed from a collection of menus and toolbars to a single ribbon mechanism. The Office2010 suites maintain the ribbon and have some new features.

The ribbon is now available across all products of the Office2010 suites so moving from one application to another is seamless. In addition to changes in the ribbon, the Office2010 suites background is now a gray color, by default, whereas the2007 Office system background was blue.

The following table describes the differences in UI elements between Office2010, the2007 Office system, and Office2003.

In Office2010 : The ribbon replaces menus and toolbars across all Products of Office2010 and can be fully customized.

In Office2007 : The ribbon replaces menus and toolbars in Access2007, Office Excel2007, PowerPoint2007, Word2007, and parts of Outlook2007.

Silverlight

Microsoft Silverlight is a technology that works in the browser and on the desktops that brings many Microsoft Office experience to life with amazing video, animations and interactivity. Microsoft recommends installing Microsoft Silverlight along with Office to improve the information worker user experience with Office2010. Specifically, Microsoft Silverlight enables better online experience with Office Online, powers the Office2010 interactive guides (available with Office2010), improves the user experience of Office SharePoint2010, improves the performance of Office Web Companion applications and help with the process of uploading Office document to cloud services.

 

Undo

If I write some code to manipulate the document in Word2007, the user has no way to undo that code. The Undo list will look something like Figure4—to use an old-fashioned expression of my mother's: it looks like a pakapoo ticket.

In Word2010, I can do the same 'Undo Bookmark' trick, or, even better, use Word2010's new functionality to specify the text that appears and to give users a much better experience

Spelling checker

The spelling checker is now integrated with automatic correction in2010.

The advances that Microsoft Company created in its Office package2010 were obvious, enormous and more powerful than its previous edition of the Office, which is MS2007. And to declare the difference between those editions, I will join my colleagues their very effective participation and I hope you may include my Answer as a part of whole knowledge:

 

First of all, with Office2010, you can get things done on your schedule and will be presented in:

1-     Microsoft Office Web Apps; which helps you to store your Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote files online and then access, view, edit, and share content from virtually anywhere.

2-     Microsoft Office Mobile; that makes you stay current and respond quickly by using new mobile versions of Office applications designed specifically for your Windows Phone7 device.

3-     Microsoft SharePoint Workspace2010. Microsoft Office Groove is the synchronized form of SharePoint2010 lists and libraries with SharePoint Workspace that helps you to access, view, and edit files anytime and anywhere from your computer. Everything will automatically sync to the SharePoint server when you’re back online.

4-     Outlook2010 keeps you stay connected to your business and social network. Outlook2010 is your hub for colleagues, customers, and friends. Use Outlook Social Connector to quickly view history of e-mails, meetings, or attachments you receive from individuals. Get additional information about people to stay on top of your business and social circles through SharePoint My Site, Windows Live, or other popular third-party sites.

5-     Outlook2010 assists you in managing large volumes of e-mail with ease, in order to save valuable time by streamlining your inbox. Outlook2010 lets you compress long e-mail threads into a few conversations that can be categorized, prioritized, and conveniently filed. The new Quick Steps feature lets you perform multi-command tasks, such as reply and delete, with a single click.

6-     The property of broadcasting your PowerPoint presentation to a remote audience, whether or not they have PowerPoint installed. The new PowerPoint Broadcast Slide Show feature enables you to present right from your desk, while your audience views the presentation live in their Web browser.

7-     According to PowerPoint2010, you can captivate your audience with personalized videos in your presentations. Embed and edit videos directly in PowerPoint2010. Trim, add fades and effects, or bookmark key scenes. Videos inserted from your files are now embedded by default, so you can share your dynamic presentations without having to manage separate media files.

8-     You can create powerful data insights: Track and highlight important trends with new data analysis and visualization features in Excel2010. The new Spark lines feature delivers a clear and compact visual representation of your data through small charts within worksheet cells. Slicers let you filter and segment your PivotTable data in multiple layers so you can spend more time analyzing and less time formatting.

9-     One Note2010 can manage your action in storing and tracking all of your ideas in one place, organizing, and sharing text, pictures, and audio and video files with OneNote2010. New features such as page version tracking, automatic highlighting, and Linked Notes give you more control over your information, so you’re always on top of your content and changes made by others.

10- Microsoft Office Backstage™ view replaces the traditional File menu to give you a centralized space for all of your file management tasks, including save, share, print, and publish. The enhanced Ribbon, common across Office2010 applications, lets you access commands quickly and create or customize tabs to fit your work style.

 

Second, the Microsoft office2007 version is still preferable over the older version of MO2003 edition, and I had used both interfaces in all my tasks during my academic studies. Recently, I am totally demanding on MO2010 suite in preparing my prospective tasks as much, and frankly speaking I have found2010 package is the best.

 

I think we should give the opportunity for newer editions of Microsoft office to settle down and replace the older ones. Our tern comes in evaluating what are the multidisciplinary features in those updated versions could be useful and beneficial in our work to get the best.

 

Anyway,Office2007 is a radical departure from previous versions of office. If you are moving from2003 to2007, it will take a bit of getting used to, but I would say it is really worth it. The quite changes in Office2007 from its older version can be seen in:

 

a-     The introduction of XML file format: In office2007, The default format to save work has an X at the end of it (i.e. docx) and this file format cannot be read by2003 (without downloading a2007 viewer. This new format extension "docx", was designed to reduce the size and chance of corruption in saved files and increase file security. On the other hand, you can save the document as a *.doc file which will be able to be opened - but you may lose some formatting

b-     The introduction of a "ribbon" vs. The removal of toolbar & menu's (like "File", "Edit", "Format" etc.): -- The ribbon takes the form of a bar at the top of the screen. It replaces the normal drop-down menu's and toolbar and instead categorizes tool buttons into "tabs". This interface design is said by Microsoft to make usage easier.

c-     Office Button in Office2007, instead of a "File" menu at the top-left side of the screen (as is present in2003), to show up the basic commands, like print, open, save and program settings, which are made available.

d-     2007 has new really updated formatting options that allow images to be applied with a reflection, rounded edges, a glow etc. with literally one click.

e-     Office2007 also comes complete with many new templates, giving the user much more selection and the ability to make their work look much more professional than similar templates within Office2003.

f-      Office2007's dictionary is globally available to all suite programs. Office2007 also contains a French dictionary and uses contextual spelling, which helps you avoid the "their/there/they're" and "your/you're" types of spelling mistakes.

 

g-     Keyboard shortcuts for2003 require you to press on the "ALT" key + a letter key on your keyboard. In2007, shortcuts are renamed "Key Tips." You can access Key Tips by pressing on "ALT" and looking at the ribbon, where a "badge" (letter) appears. Pressing on the "badge" letter opens a command or menu.

There is a HUGE difference between the2007 and2010.2010:1) Layout is entirely remodeled, much easier on your eyes(EYE CANDY!)2) You can customize it - so whatever floats your boator suits you; set it up the way you want it, not the wayMS Office thinks you should have it3) There are more FEATURES in2010 - so play with it, youwon't break it - it is perfectly fine this time around to be"Click Happy" - so go ahead and sing "Don't Worry, BeClick Happy" instead of "Don't Worry - Be Happy".
